Logan, Seinan Music’s top knob, runs through 5 of his favourite UK Garage numbers.
"With the exception of Hip Hop, this was the first ‘dance’ music I really got into, all be it almost exclusively via tape singles purchased from Woolworths in Dumbarton.
UK garage has recently received a well deserved revival thanks to the current UK Bass scene and the obvious influence that garage played in its evolution. I still love this music and glad to see new folk are discovering it. Here are some of my favs from my youth.
This is THE classic UKG track, it’s unreal and still sounds amazing. It was actually co-produced by Tim Deluxe. Every so often this gets re-released with allstar mixes; they’ll never come close to this.
Tuff Jam were amazing, they were nearly as good as Todd Edwards for those swingy beats …..nearly. I worked in a record shop when all that that swingy house was in vougue in the early 2000’s. Those boys should have checked out Tuff Jam to learn how to program beats. I moved house recently and nearly shed a tear when I thought I had snapped my copy of this, I hadn’t, it was just a pishy house thing.
It was actually my older sister that got me into this one, she used to play some Kiss FM (before it was shit) mixtape that had a few DEA numbers on it. I thought it was pretty bent for ages then gave it a chance. It’s now one of my favorite records. Wiley sampled another single of theirs for some rolex track he did or something.
Todd Edwards is going through a bit of a revival it seems, which is amazing as he is criminally underrated. He can sometimes get a bit carried away with the diva vocals but when he gets it right he is on another level. I don’t actually own this on vinyl, never been able to find it for a decent price.
Some body will have something to say about this I’m sure, the facts are it’s a stauner of a track, who gives a fuck that it was number 2? I fucking love it. I received complete pelters for playing it in Glasgow recently and I’d play it again. I used to think everyone in London lisened to music like this, piped through the tube carrages. Something to think about Boris ya floppy haired dick.”
